Massage Therapy
Long thought of as merely a means of relaxation for the rich, massage therapy has been given a reputation of something that was a luxury. However, through research and the persistance of massage therapists, massage has come to be recognized for its therapeutic qualities. Studies have shown that massage may be beneficial in the following ways:
- Stress relief through the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system
- Lowers blood pressure and heart rate
- Increases circulation, which aids in the movement of nutrients and oxygen to the cells and removal of metabolic waste
- Pain relief/management
- Relief from headaches, including migraines
- Reduces anxiety
- Reduces muscle fatigue, soreness and trigger point formation (aka muscle knots)
- Improves posture
- Assists in rehabilitation after injury or post-operative
- Strengthens the immune system
- Improves range of motion
